Microtome
Precision instrument for producing thin, uniform sample sections (20–750 µm) from plastic materials for OIT and Carbon Black Dispersion testing. Servo motor with Panasonic PLC.
Thin, uniform sections for OIT and dispersion tests
Some polymer tests depend on cutting a very thin, flat slice from a pipe or moulded part: OIT samples need consistent mass and good contact with the DSC pan, and carbon black or pigment dispersion is assessed under a microscope on thin sections. Hand-cut slices vary in thickness and give scattered results. The servo-driven microtome cuts sections from 20 to 750 µm with automatic or manual operation, controlled by a Panasonic PLC with a 4.7" touchscreen, so every operator produces the same section thickness.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a microtome used for in plastics testing?
To cut thin, uniform sections from pipes, granules or moulded parts — mainly for OIT measurement on DSC and for carbon black or pigment dispersion evaluation under a microscope.
What section thickness can it cut?
From 20 µm to 750 µm, set on the touchscreen.
Is it automatic or manual?
Both. Automatic mode repeats the cut with servo-motor control for consistent thickness; manual mode is available for individual cuts.
Is the device safe to operate?
It uses a high-precision knife guarded by safety sensors, and the cutting cycle is controlled by the PLC rather than by hand.
