Coefficient of Friction Testing Machine
Measures static and dynamic friction coefficients of plastic films, packaging materials, and surfaces. Essential for flexible packaging, food packaging, medical, and automotive applications.
How film behaves on the packaging line
Whether a film runs smoothly on form-fill-seal and wrapping machines, or whether stacked bags slide off a pallet, depends on its coefficient of friction. The tester pulls a weighted sled over the film at a controlled speed and measures the force needed to start motion (static COF) and to keep it moving (kinetic COF). With a 100–1,000 mm/min speed range, 0.1 g sensitivity and a chrome-plated test surface, it runs ISO 8295 and ASTM D1894 tests on plastic films, packaging laminates and other surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between static and kinetic COF?
Static COF is the force needed to start sliding divided by the normal force; kinetic COF is the force needed to keep it sliding at constant speed divided by the normal force. Both are dimensionless.
Which standards does the tester follow?
ISO 8295 for plastic film and sheeting and ASTM D1894 for static and kinetic COF of plastic film.
Why does COF matter for packaging?
Too high a COF causes film to stick and jam on packaging machines; too low makes it slip and stacked packs slide. Measuring it keeps line performance predictable.
How are results saved?
The test is controlled from the touchscreen and data are recorded via USB.
